The aim of this site is to help those who have had ancestors living in parts of Ercall Magna, currently High Ercall, Walton, Osbaston, Cotwall, Moortown, Tern, Shirlowe and Wiseland, or have a passing interest in its history.

The Census I have done covers the above villages including the Workhouse in Rowton. For those with ancestors outside these areas I have included some transcripts of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials from the St Michael and All Angels parish registers. Its my intention, over time, to update these and include as much information about Ercall Magna as I can find.
As a rough guide to the documents that the Parish Council and the Parish Church holds / held click on the links, most of these are now held in the Shropshire Archives.
This will be a 'work in progress' site with pages being created, altered or added to as and when I can. If you have any information or items that I may be able to use, or even corrections please feel free to contact me.

I will list as many references as possible, I always recommend checking for yourselves as I cannot guarantee the accuracy of my research for various reasons, but I hope that what you find here might help a little.

My name is Robert Ridgway and I have lived in Walton, Ercall Magna on and off since I was 1 year old, having been born in Ruyton XI Towns. A little about me and some of my Ridgway family line research and is available by clicking on the photo of Baby me. Although Ridgway's are found in Ercall Magna, my line that I have traced so far is from Flint and Cheshire.
